We will be putting the collection in the spotlight for the entire year. We will also pay attention to witness accounts about the place of sound and noise in everyone’s life.
We went in search of poetry and prose that express the act of listening and the relationship between human, sound and environment. We have launched a writing competition for this. The selected poems were given a permanent place in a poetry route through Klankenbos and will be included in a themed publication later on. Maud Vanhauwaert (winner public award Herman de Coninckprijs) and Virginie Platteau (Rekto:Verso) were on the jury.
During a residency in Klankenbos from Friday 20 to Sunday 22 March 2015, young people worked together to create an unusual group performance. They have performed their ‘sound guerilla’ production at the TAKT festival at Provinciaal Domein Dommelhof.
Musica brings knowledge together: it will invite its partners in the field to reflect on sound art in the open air on Friday 8 May 2015 among the trees in Klankenbos. This afternoon of reflection is open to everyone.
The fourth edition of the Babelut Festival will be held from Friday 5 to Sunday 7 June 2015 at Provinciaal Domein Dommelhof. This time there will also be several workshops and productions in Klankenbos that are directly linked to the sound installations. See www.babelutfestival.be for more information and the full programme from April onwards.
AlbaNova – Midsummer festival for musical creation and heritage will be held for the second time on Sunday 28 June 2015 at the Landcommanderij Alden Biesen. AlbaNova will also host the official launch of the ‘Schatten van Vlieg’ activity for Klankenbos (a summer treasure hunt for families). See www.albanovafestival.com for more information and the full programme from April onwards.
The Schatten van Vlieg summer activity – a treasure hunt for families – is all about sound this year. Musica has made a significant contribution to this central theme and has also come up with a fun Schatten van Vlieg activity for all young visitors to Klankenbos this summer. We will launch our activity at AlbaNova on Sunday 28 June in Alden Biesen. The finale of Schatten van Vlieg will be held during our international sound art event on Sunday 18 October.
The 16th edition of the international composition course SoundMine will be held from 14 to 18 July 2015 at Provinciaal Domein Dommelhof. Young people and adults with a passion for composing and creating will experience five days of inspiration from top-level coaches who are composers themselves in the magnificent surroundings of Klankenbos.
On Sunday 9 August 2015 the new World War I Sound Route (Northern Limburg) will be presented at the Achelse Kluis. This cycle route with a mobile app is a guide to Northern Limburg for lovers of sound art and culture, based on soundscapes inspired by the border issues during the First World War. This sound route also covers Klankenbos.
From 15 to 25 September 2015, sound artist Stijn Demeulenaere will come to work on a new composition at a residency in the Radio Forest installation. He will work on material he has collected at residencies in Iceland and South Africa. The results will be presented on 18 October.
On Sunday 18 October 2015 in the afternoon, we will organise an international sound art event. In Klankenbos, the public can look forward to surprise performances and activities by some of the sound artists who created the installations including Rozalie Hirs, Hans van Koolwijk en Tony di Napoli. The Logos Robot Orchestra will also be present.
