An invitation to a resonant conversation with twelve quirky red boxes.
Can trees in the forest talk? In Erwin Stache’s installation Konversation, they almost do. Twelve red boxes pop up like strange mushrooms. They seem isolated, but looks are deceiving: they listen, react, and converse.
Three boxes conjure orchestral sounds that change as you move. Four others invite you to join in. Speak, whistle, or laugh! A blinking red light captures your sound, adding it to the conversation. Along the path, five boxes react to passersby: wailing if you stroll, becoming lively if you jog.
Konversation is never the same twice. Will you join the conversation?
about the artist
Erwin Stache (DE) studied physics and mathematics in Leipzig whilst also taking music courses. He then went on to work as a freelance musician, instrument maker, inventor and composer. Central to his work is the design of installations and performances for unique locations, where sound, light, movement and space converge in a blend of acoustics, physics, theatre and electronics. He transforms everyday and discarded objects into resonant components of sound installations that are both surreal and instantly recognisable.
