The exhibition In an Early Alpha Stage brings six artists together around the anthropology of sound. Through poetic interventions or in documentary collections, they present a world in full transformation, in which the intangible is always given a different interpretation.

While sound artist Félix Blume is working in the Red Cross Center Overpelt; in CC Palethe he exhibits the sound thriller Curupira, Creature of the woods, in which residents of the Tauary tribe listen and describe the recorded sounds from the Amazon rainforest. The film takes you in search of a dangerous creature and offers a reflection on the importance of myths and their place in the world today. Visual artist Babs Decruyenaere is building her own universe with found objects from nature. A meticulously life long work in which she tries to transcend the impossibility of ordering by form or matter. The video by Belgian artist Edith Dekyndt documents the complete cycle of melting ice at the Breiðarmerkurjökull Glacier. A representation of the passing of time and the transformation of our natural environment influenced by the current climate crisis. The work of the late painter Mireille Duthoy from Pelt has received international acclaim and was already an early statement in the 1970s against global warming and the pollution of the sea surface. During the expo period, the group of sound artists and musicians from Collectief Publiek Geluid will work on an experimental audio-visual installation in which breath, electronics, painting, gargling and field recordings from the lockdown period will be linked. An investigation into the origin of sound, in which collaboration is central. Artist Nick Steur created a new work in the context of the festival and was inspired by a meteorite impact in the desert. Both the preparation for the fall, the fall itself and the permanent imprint are part of the work of art, which then becomes a permanent work in the public space. As the opening performance of the festival, a stone will fall on 23.10 at 07:00 pm. Feel the tension build up and experience this unique momentum together with others.

The expo runs for a longer period around the festival and focuses on the processes of some of the artists. During the months surrounding the festival the expo grows, with new work added over time, depending on the working process of the makers during their stay in Pelt. The exhibition In An Early Alpha Stage was created within the framework of OORtreders Festival as a collaboration between Expogroep Off, Off, Off, Gemeente Pelt, CC Palethe, Pelt Library, C-TAKT and Musica, Impulse Center for Music, in which some artists were selected for a longer residency trajectory within the Municipality.
