SoundMine 2018

International course in composition and electronic music

Tue 03 Jul 2018 to Sat 07 Jul 2018
Landcommanderij Alden Biesen, Kasteelstraat 6, 3740 Bilzen

SoundMine is an international composition course with intensive coaching by top-level coaches who are composers themselves.

Young people and adults with a passion for composing and creating will spend five days pushing back the boundaries of their own musical imagination. They will work intensively for a whole week towards a presentation during which the works created or in progress will be shown and performed.

The course is aimed at artists who are just starting out and young professionals from Belgium and abroad who will benefit from the extra encouragement this course provides. They will be selected on the basis of their motivation, age, scores, sound recordings and development potential.

Established names Wim Henderickx and Diederik Glorieux will lead the eighteenth edition of the composition course. Composer and sound artist Jorrit Tamminga will once again immerse the composers in the world of electronic music.

During SoundMine the participants will have the chance to compose music in the most diverse range of styles.

In 2018 we pay special attention to composing for orchestra. Thanks to a partnership with the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, several young composers will get the chance to rehearse their own work with a full symphonic orchestra.

In 2018 the composition course will take place at the beautiful historical site of the Grand Commandery Alden Biesen in Bilzen.

SoundMine is organised by Musica, Impulse Centre for Music in partnership with Grand Commandery Alden Biesen and Antwerp Symphony Orchestra.
