24 childcare parents from the province of Antwerp have started ‘Musical dialogues’ with children, thanks to a series of workshop sessions by Musica.
Even before they can speak, babies do respond to musical sounds. By communicating musically early on, the welcoming parents encourage children’s language development, among other things. Musica’s workshop series ‘Musical Dialogues’ capitalises on this phenomenon, introducing children to music, musical instruments and music-making through play.
The sessions in Dessel are an initiative of Musica Impulse Centre and Ferm Kinderopvang. On Saturday 30 April, there was a workshop for the children and their parents at childcare centre ‘t Vlinderhofke in Dessel, and local television RTV was also there. From the images and conversations with parents and supervisors, it may be clear: everyone, from the very young to the adults, had a hard time!
Musical encounters and play for babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers under the guidance of a music educator. Together with their parents or supervisors they explore the possibilities of voice, body and musical dialogue. The focus lies on spontaneity, play and experimentation.
