Esther Ursem is our new general director

Esther Ursem has already worked for Musica for several years as the artistic coordinator of the Babelut activities.

In the future, Esther will be supported by Bianca Van Roosbroeck, who will be taking over the business management of Musica from Bart De Vos, who has already started work at Het Nieuwstedelijk.

The departing director, Paul Craenen, took up the position of senior lecturer in Music, Education and Society at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague on 1 February. He will also support the transition process at Musica in the coming months.

Esther Ursem is a flautist and music educator by training.

In recent years, she has worked at the Municipal Academy of Music and Word in Mol as a flute teacher and educational coordinator.

She plays the flute in Casco Phil.

In September 2014, Esther started working for Musica as the artistic coordinator of the Babelut activities, aimed at musical participation for very small children.

She has been able to extend these activities in the past few years, setting up all sorts of national and international partnerships. Babelut Festival has been turned into Babelut Parcours, a real journey of experience for little children.

She has developed the coaching process ‘Tafelmuziek’, or ‘table music’, aimed at music in childcare. She also helped to set up the inclusive music camp in Mechelen in partnership with Casco Phil, which will be run in Ostend as well this year.

Esther’s priorities for the future include a commitment to international partnerships and expanding the activities of the Music Castle at and with Grand Commandery Alden Biesen.
