Sign up for Curating Lab

23/04/2021

Would you like to develop an art installation together with established sound artists? Or have you always wanted to set up an exhibition?

Then register now for Curating Lab, from 25 to 29 May in Klankenbos! Take part in one of the free workshops from international curator Christine Eyene and established sound artists Mo Laudi and Elsa M'Bala. Over the course of five days they will immerse you in the world of sound art and curating. Together you will develop and organise the opening of an  expo about identity, migration, nature and everyday sounds that will premiere at the end of the week, theKlankenbos Spring Expo.

You can read more about the project here.

Who are you?

Curating Lab aims to facilitate the emergence of new voices, diversity representation, and new forms of agency in the field of arts and culture. In this lab, we explore the notion of 'man-made borders.’ We examine how sonic experiences in new territories contribute to the formation of new identities and how, conversely, new identities transform soundscapes. For this we are looking for (young) adults with a cultural diverse profile.

About the workshops

Workshop with Christine Eyene: Curating an expo

Through multiple sessions you will learn about curating and organising an exhibition, including; advertising, communicating and logistics of a large scale art event. The participants will be in charge of the opening of the Curating Lab expo at the end of the workshop week.

Workshop with Mo Laudi: Globalisto

In this workshop, Mo Laudi guides you in creating a collage of music, sound art and experimental sound architecture from everyday sounds. You will explore how to take sounds to their limits. Blending hip hop, African music, electronics, traditional music, found sounds and field recordings all together. You will experiment with materials to deconstruct socio-political issues and formulate your own stories. The final result will come together in a sound sculpture bringing together disparate histories and narratives.

Workshop with Elsa M'Bala: Experimental Radio Making

In this workshop you will produce an experimental radio show, starting from your own cultural diverse profile. Participants bring personal stories, sounds and poems that are linked to their home to the workshop. This is the source material from which you will learn more about sampling.
