Five electronic musicians, an AI software, and a renaissance composer. Unfold: EXTREMIX is without a doubt one of the most remarkable Musica projects of this year. An indescribable experience for everyone who was there, but with the aftermovie you can still catch a glimpse.
EXTREMIX combined old music with electronic music, and musicians of flesh and blood with an AI composition tool, in an innovative partner project between Musica, Concertgebouw Brugge and the software company Musi-Co.
Together with Vi.be, the partners assembled an electronic quintet of five promising Belgian producers from different musical corners – from techno and electro, to jazz. Under the guidance of producer-musician Dijf Sanders and Musi-co’s Tijn Borghuis, the occasional combo spent a whole week working on a modern reflection (‘remix’) of John Dowland’s masterpiece ‘Lachrimae or Seaven Teares’.
The result: 4 original compositions performed during an impressive show moment on 12 May… and an enthusiastic group of musicians! Everyone agreed: this tastes like more. We are very curious about the sequel, in the meantime here is a look back at a very nice working week.
Watch the EXTREMIX aftermovie online.
