Masterpiece: Café Improvisé

Jamming makes you think of Jazz, or practice sessions from your local garage band. But musicians also jammed in the past. Not in the least “famous composers” were almost always great improvisers. Think first of all about Bach, Mozart, Beethoven and Chopin. Historical jam sessions give the public a direct insight into the manner that musical ideas often take shape, how composers develop a musical vocabulary and what role informal circumstances played in their creations.

In the care free environment of Café Improvisé the relationship between performers and audience is more relaxed, the audience is not always quiet, and the musicians also talk occasionally. This format allows the audience of today to get to know a lesser known musical discipline from the past, wherein musicians challenge and inspire each other to stand out and mingle musically.
