Babelut Workshop: Musical Kamishibai

Kamishibai is a form of Japanese storytelling theatre. It literally means ‘paper theatre’. You can compare it to a television: the A3 sheets with drawings on are the images in an animation film, with each sheet showing a scene in a story.

This workshop will introduce us to a musical version of Kamishibai. The magic of a little theatre and the visual aspect of the drawings intrigue the audience. The fascinating drawings inspire us to make music. This leads to a musical story or a composition based on different images. This unique way of working really inspires children to make music from different visual stimuli (picture books, paintings etc.)
