Muzikale Kamishibai

Making music with visual stimuli - for host parents, nursery school staff, kindergartens and first year primary schools.

Kamishibai is a form of Japanese narrative theatre. Literally it means paper theatre. It is a bit like a television; the A3 sheets with drawings are the images of an animated film, each sheet depicting a scene from a story.

During this refresher course, we are introduced to a musical version of the Kamishibai. The magic of the small theatre and the visual nature of the drawings capture our attention. The fascinating drawings encourage us to make music. In this way, a musical story or a composition is created from the various images. This unique way of working gives a lot of inspiration to make music with children through different visual stimuli (picture books, paintings, ...).
