Antwerp Queer Choir seeks voices from the queer community who want to sing together in a choir!

Danny de Jong and Isaak Duerinck, (music) theatre makers and Art Educators in Residence at DE SINGEL in 2023, are founding the Antwerp Queer Choir this year.

Between February and April 2023, we will work in rehearsals and workshops towards a performance on Friday 19 May 2023 at a queer happening at DE SINGEL.

Our voice can be an instrument, a billboard, a megaphone, a weapon. As a queer person, how do you handle your voice? Speech and voice therapist Katrien Eerdekens, who works with voice in transition in her practice Find Your Voice, assists us in finding a healthy and personal use of the voice. During the sessions, we seek the power of singing together, while taking individual limits and possibilities into account as much as possible.

Experience with singing/performing or being able to read scores is absolutely not a must! We focus on your relationship with your voice and especially on having fun and meeting people. Antwerp Queer Choir is a safe place where you can uncompromisingly be yourself and where you can let your (singing) voice be heard loud and clear.

Participation = free. Rehearsals always take place in Antwerp. If you do not live in Antwerp, your travel expenses can be (partially) reimbursed.

Want to sing along?

Are you between 14 and 104 years old?

Are you available on Saturday 18 February (from 12.30 to 4 pm), Mondays 27 February, 6, 13 & 20 March, 3, 17 & 24 April and 1, 8 & 15 May (from 7 to 9 pm), Thursday 18 May and Friday 19 May 2023?

The workshops are open to all.

Give us a call if you need extra assistance to participate.

Send an email to ( by 7 February 2023.

Introduce yourself in a few sentences, or make a short video. For example, tell us:

  • whether you already have experience singing?
  • what you think is cool about singing in a choir?
  • which song you like to sing in the shower, or in the car?
  • what your favo queer anthem is?
  • whether a particular artist or song played a role in helping you discover your (queer) identity?
