Summer expo Pfeifen im Wald

Andreas Oldörp & students HBK Saar

Sat 22 Jul 2017 to Sat 23 Sep 2017
Provinciaal Domein Dommelhof, Toekomstlaan 5, 3910 Neerpelt

Andreas Oldörp is one of the most renowned sound artists in Germany. He also teaches sound art at the Hochschule der Bildenden Künste Saar (HBK Saar) in Saarbrücken. He frequently organises residencies with his students, in Germany and abroad, creating temporary sound eshibitions to suit the location.

In the context of C-TAKT, his students search for inspiration in the Klankenbos collection: how is it that some sound installations have managed to survive after 10 years in a public environment? Which materials and techniques are durable, how do you protect yourself as a sound artist against weather conditions and vandalism, and how do these aspects influence the design? Nature is also an important source of inspiration for the creations, as proved by the title ‘Pfeifen im Wald’ (which literally means ‘whistling in the forest’, but implies ‘whistling in the dark’).

After a first visit to Klankenbos in October 2016, the students worked for a year on their creations. In July 2017 they returned to Neerpelt to install the works on site. The installations will hang, stand and lie in Klankenbos from 21 July to 23 September 2017.
