There stands MegaTron. In the middle, the centre of attention. A proud eye-catcher with a dent, a crumbling cathedral, a marvellous machine, an echo of a bygone era, knights and castles.
At its feet, a lantern; waiting for your hand to move it to the right spot. If you choose wisely, music will play. But first, MegaTron needs air to breathe again and blow as it always has. Its towers become flutes; we tumble back in time; we’re off.
In Umbra, the focus is on music from a distant past. Jacob Obrecht, Josquin des Prez, … Virtuoso polyphony blends with folk melodies. Musicians from the Delle Donne Consort engage in dialogue with MegaTron, an installation by Toon Quanten. Wouter Van Looy directs and weaves together images with sound and performers with the audience.
