It stops, turns, changes, speeds up and slows down, but it never becomes predictable.
Following the success of FeL and FRAMED, choreographer Karolien Verlinden returns with a new, rhythmic project. In Re:Beat, she allows rhythms to clash, merge and shift.
You will be treated to performances by Manou Selhorst, a flamenco dancer with a past in Andalusia, and Briana Ashley, a stepper with Afro-African roots. Together with elektronica musician Lennart Heyndels, they transform rhythm into movement, sound and silence.
Re:Beat is a vibrant encounter between cultures and styles, in which the rhythm never stands still: it stops, turns, changes, speeds up and slows down, but it never becomes predictable.

concept & context
Re:Beat is an interdisciplinary dance and music performance in which movement, sound and silence merge into an experience of rhythm and time. The project brings pre-schoolers, experienced dancers and a musician together on stage to play and interact. Drawing on their own styles, they seek out the beat that unites them. Where do they meet as musicians? How do they find common ground as dancers? And what impact does this dialogue have on the young audience?
Rhythm is not only heard or seen, but physically experienced: as a living, breathing organism. You can experience rhythm through all the senses: stamping on the ground creates vibrations that the children can feel, whilst silent movements provide a visual pulse. Moreover, the beat you hear will not always correspond to what you see: an exciting spectacle guaranteed.
